O'Hare to Rosemont: the hotels, the convention center and the outlets

Rosemont's River Road hotels are under 2 miles from Terminal 5. Reach them, the convention center and the outlets by shuttle, Blue Line or taxi.

River Road, Rosemont

Rosemont is one stop up the Blue Line from O’Hare, and its River Road hotels are 1.8 to 1.9 miles from Terminal 5 by road, about 6 to 7 minutes by car. A hotel shuttle or a short cab ride is the easy way in. The train works, but boarding at O’Hare costs $5.

Which hotel is next to what

Hotel Street Next to
Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare River Road Across from the convention center
DoubleTree by Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport - Rosemont River Road Immediately alongside the convention center
Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago O’Hare Rosemont River Road Linked to the convention center by a sky bridge
Hilton Rosemont/Chicago O’Hare River Road An indoor skyway to the convention center, and close to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago
Sonesta Chicago O’Hare Airport Rosemont West Higgins Road Between Rivers Casino and the Fashion Outlets of Chicago

The DoubleTree and Embassy Suites pages put O’Hare 1.5 miles away. By road from Terminal 5 the distance is 1.9 miles to the DoubleTree and 1.8 to Embassy Suites. The airport, the CTA and Pace don’t name the outlets as a stop, so a hotel beside them is the simplest way to reach them. The hotels page lists the other places to stay near the airport.

Hotel shuttles collect at Terminal 2, and the hours differ

Hotel shuttles collect at the Terminal 2 arrivals curb, and the airport says some also serve Terminal 5, so ask your hotel which one. Virtual concierge kiosks on the arrivals level by baggage claim will call a shuttle at no charge.

  • Loews Chicago O’Hare, also on River Road, lists a shuttle every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, with no booking.
  • The Hilton Rosemont lists 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and to 10 p.m. on weekends.
  • The Crowne Plaza, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites and Sonesta list a free shuttle and no hours, so ask when it runs before you book a late landing.

A cab to Rosemont pays the meter alone

The city lists Rosemont as a straight-meter suburb, so the fare is the meter alone. For 1.8 to 1.9 miles, the published rates work out to about $12 with the $4 airport departure tax, and that’s before waiting time, tip or surcharges. Taxis wait at the stand on the lower-level curb outside baggage claim at every terminal. A suburban company’s cab has to be booked by phone first. The taxi page lists the rates and surcharges.

The train costs more going out than coming back

Rosemont is the first stop after O’Hare on the CTA’s route diagram. Boarding at O’Hare costs $5, a premium that applies only at the airport station, so one stop out costs twice what you’ll pay for the ride back. Boarding at Rosemont costs $2.50. The Crowne Plaza’s page calls the hotel a short walk from the Blue Line, and La Quinta’s says a station is nearby. Neither gives a distance.

Pace’s Route 330 also reaches the convention center, for less than half the Blue Line fare out of O’Hare. Pace lists the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and the Rosemont Theater among its stops, and a ride costs $2.00 by card. Pace says the route runs daily, and the airport says weekdays and Saturdays, so check Pace’s schedule for your day.

Metra’s North Central Service trains also call at Rosemont, on weekdays only. They board at the O’Hare Transfer station behind the Multi-Modal Facility. Ride the Airport Transit System there from any terminal.
