Accessible restrooms and Companion Plus Restroom at O'Hare
The Companion Plus Restroom in Terminal 2 has a ceiling lift and an adult changing table. Every restroom is accessible, and two airport lists disagree.

The Companion Plus Restroom is in Terminal 2, across from the Family Lounge. It has a powered ceiling lift and an adult-sized changing table that supports up to 330 lbs. Every other restroom at O’Hare has wheelchair accessible facilities, and each terminal has all gender single user restrooms.
Inside the Companion Plus Restroom
It’s a private, fully accessible room for travelers with disabilities who need extra support, including those who need a caregiver’s help with toileting or changing. The room includes:
- A powered ceiling lift system to help transfer someone to and from the adult-sized changing table
- Two accessible showers, one with a roll-in design and one with a transfer seat
- An accessible toilet and sink
- Grab bars and clear floor space for mobility equipment
- Two emergency pull cords connected to the O’Hare Communication Center
- An automatic door and bright LED lighting
The airport’s accessibility page prints no hours for the room. Its terminal map says the room can be reserved in advance through an online form. The Family Lounge is in Terminal 2’s Main Hall near Gate F1, after security, and the room is across from it. The lounge is open every day, 24 hours. Travelers Aid Chicago’s Terminal 2 office is also across from the lounge. It is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and its number is (773) 894-2427. Our Terminal 2 page maps Concourses E and F, and our security page lists the checkpoint hours.
Every other changing surface the airport describes is for babies and young children. Mother’s Rooms have a diaper changing surface, and most restrooms have changing stations for young children. The adult-sized table is the only one of its kind the airport lists.
All gender restrooms: two lists that differ
The airport prints two lists of where its all gender single user restrooms are, on two pages, and the lists don’t match.

Repair stations and who to call
Each terminal’s baggage claim has a self-service repair station for minor luggage, equipment or assistive device repairs. The airport lists a mounted air compressor (130 PSI max pressure), a tool kit, a wheelchair charging unit and a padded bench, and says the stations are near the information desks. Our accessibility services page also covers wheelchair assistance.
For comments or complaints about accessibility services and facilities at O’Hare, the airport names its ADA coordinator at 773-894-3728. The line is monitored Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, excluding city holidays.
