Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Turkish Airlines at O'Hare

Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Turkish Airlines check in at O'Hare Terminal 5. The Swissport Lounge has closed. Which lounges still fit each airline.

Terminal 5 is the check-in terminal for Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Turkish Airlines, on the Departures and Check-In level. The airport’s lounge page names the Swissport Lounge for Emirates and Etihad Airways, but Priority Pass lists that lounge as permanently closed. Of the four, only Turkish Airlines still has an open lounge that names it.

Which lounge names each airline

Airline Lounge that names it
Emirates Swissport Lounge, which Priority Pass lists as permanently closed
Qatar Airways None
Etihad Airways Swissport Lounge, which Priority Pass lists as permanently closed
Turkish Airlines LOT Business Lounge, for business class customers

The airport’s directory gives each airline one check-in terminal and no flights, so your airline has the last word on yours. Our A to Z airline guide has the rest of the airport’s airlines.

Emirates and Etihad: the Swissport Lounge has closed

Priority Pass lists the Swissport Lounge as permanently closed, although the airport’s lounge page still names it for Emirates and Etihad Airways. That page doesn’t name another Terminal 5 lounge for either airline, so ask Emirates or Etihad where your ticket gets you in. A Priority Pass membership opens two other Terminal 5 lounges, covered below.

Turkish Airlines: the LOT Business Lounge

The LOT Business Lounge is at Gate M18 on both the airport’s page and its map. The airport’s row for it reads “Turkish Airlines, LOT and Star Alliance business class travelers.” The row says business class and names no other cabin for Turkish Airlines. The airport prints no hours or phone number for the lounge, so ask Turkish Airlines before you count on it.

Qatar Airways, and Priority Pass for any of the four

The airport’s lounge page names no lounge for Qatar Airways, and the Wingtips Lounge names none of the four airlines. A Priority Pass membership is the way in that doesn’t depend on your airline, and two Terminal 5 lounges take it. The Wingtips Lounge lets members in up to 3 hours before departure and is open daily 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Air France Lounge is open daily 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and takes members except between noon and 5 p.m. In that window, Wingtips is the one to try.

The airport’s page also says travelers without a membership “may also purchase day passes for most of the clubs.” It doesn’t name a club or a price. Our lounge access guide has the day-pass prices and Priority Pass terms, and the Wingtips guide opens with the Swissport closure and lists the airlines Wingtips takes.

How early to arrive and which checkpoint

The airport’s FAQ says TSA recommends arriving 3 hours before international flights. Terminal 5 has one checkpoint, Checkpoint 10, open 24 hours. Its TSA PreCheck lane runs 3:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The CLEAR Plus lane runs Sunday to Friday 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Our PreCheck and CLEAR guide lists each checkpoint’s lanes and hours.

Landing instead of leaving

The airport’s directory lists no separate arrivals terminal for these four airlines, and its International Traveler page puts customs for flights from abroad in Terminal 5. That page says many factors affect how long immigration and customs take, and it’s rare for them to take more than two hours. Our Terminal 5 arrivals guide has the passport lines, bag claim and customs in order, and our international connection guide covers a flight on from there.
