Rate Field, Chicago

The White Sox play at Rate Field, and the team names Sox/35th as the Red Line stop for it. From O’Hare you ride the [Blue Line](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/cta-blue-line/) into the city, change to the Red Line and ride south. O’Hare’s transit page calls the CTA the most economical option.

## Four ways to the park

No page publishes a fare or a travel time to Rate Field itself. The CTA’s and the airport’s figures stop at downtown.

| Way | Cost | Time | Where it ends |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Blue Line, then Red Line | $5 to board at O’Hare | The CTA says 40-45 minutes from O’Hare to downtown, with nothing published past that | Sox/35th Red Line stop |
| Taxi | The meter. The airport’s average to downtown is $50, the CTA’s is around $40 | The CTA says 25-90 minutes to downtown | No taxi stop on the team’s rideshare or public transportation pages |
| Pre-arranged car | None published | None for the trip. The airport says the car takes 5 to 20 minutes to reach you at O’Hare | No stop for cars on the team’s rideshare or public transportation pages |
| Rideshare | None published for this trip. The CTA’s chart says around $35-50 to downtown, surging to $140 or more | The CTA says 25-90 minutes to downtown | The Rideshare Lot in Lot A, near Wentworth Ave., with Gate 5 to enter |

The meter sets the fare to Rate Field. The $50 and $40 figures are for downtown.

## Blue Line first, then a southbound Red Line

The Blue Line starts inside O’Hare and runs at all times, every day. From Terminals 1, 2 and 3, follow the Trains to City signs through the pedestrian tunnels on the basement level. From Terminal 5, ride the free [Airport Transit System](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/airport-transit-system/) to Terminal 2 or 3 first. The [Blue Line guide](https://ordairportguide.com/guides/how-ride-cta-blue-line-from-ohare/) walks you from each terminal to the platform.

Then you change downtown. The team tells fans coming from downtown to board a southbound Red Line 95th/Dan Ryan train at any Red Line subway station along State Street. It names Chicago, Grand, Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson. O’Hare’s transit page says the Blue Line connects to most other CTA lines. Neither the team’s page nor the airport’s names the stop where the two lines meet. The White Sox give 312-836-7000 for public transportation information.

The change costs nothing extra. The CTA says transfers to another train or bus are free, up to two within two hours, on the same Ventra Card, Ventra Ticket, bank card or wallet. Boarding anywhere else on the L costs $2.50, so the way back is cheaper.

The team says the area is served by the Red Line and the Green Line, a Metra Rock Island stop and a number of bus routes, but it names no bus route to the park itself. The Green Line stop is 35th/Bronzeville/IIT, but every L direction the team gives from downtown uses the Red Line.

The team says Metra’s 35th Street “Lou” Jones stop on the Rock Island line, which leaves from LaSalle Street Station, is an easy walk to the park. No page connects O’Hare to that station, and the team sends you to metra.com for train times.

## Taxi, pre-arranged car and rideshare at O’Hare

Taxis wait at the stand on the lower-level curb outside baggage claim at every terminal. Use the marked stand, because the airport warns against rides offered outside it or on the departure level. The [taxi page](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/taxi/) lists the rates and the surcharges the meter adds.

For a pre-arranged car, book ahead, then call the company once you have your bags, and it gives you a plate number, a description of the car and a door to meet at. Cars meet you in lane 2 on the lower level, and the airport posts a list of pre-arranged limousine services by the information booths across from Door C. The airport publishes no fares for them.

[Rideshare pickups](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/rideshare/) are on the upper level, at the orange poles 2A to 2G in Terminal 2 and the green poles 3G, 3H, 3J and 3K in Terminal 3.

At the park, the team’s rideshare page names a drop-off for rideshare, which it encourages. Drivers pick you up in the same Rideshare Lot where they drop you. The team’s rideshare and public transportation pages say nothing about taxis or limousines, so ask your company where it stops.

## Game days: what’s published and what isn’t

The team’s transportation page describes no extra Red Line service. O’Hare’s Public Transit and Taxi pages mention neither games nor Rate Field, and the CTA’s Blue Line page lists no game-day service.

Neither the team nor the airport publishes Red Line hours, so check CTA’s Red Line timetable before a night game ends. CTA’s Blue Line page lists upcoming alerts, including planned work, and a system status for each line.

If the L isn’t an option, the [downtown guide](https://ordairportguide.com/guides/how-get-from-ohare-downtown-chicago/) lines up the road options between O’Hare and the Loop.
