Grant Park, Chicago

Choose Chicago lists Lollapalooza in August, four days of music in Grant Park on the lakefront. The [Blue Line](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/cta-blue-line/) runs from O’Hare to downtown at all times, every day. The festival’s help page doesn’t name a station to use, and neither does the airport. The festival points riders to the RTA’s trip planner instead.

## Getting from O’Hare to Grant Park

Boarding the Blue Line at O’Hare costs $5, and a one-day CTA and Pace pass, also $5, covers that boarding with nothing extra to pay. A 3-day pass costs $15 and a 7-day pass $20. The [Blue Line guide](https://ordairportguide.com/guides/how-ride-cta-blue-line-from-ohare/) walks you from each terminal to the platform.

The festival says CTA, Metra and Pace make getting to Grant Park easy. O’Hare’s [Metra service](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/metra-north-central-service/) runs to Union Station on weekdays only, so it doesn’t help on Saturday or Sunday. A one-way ticket to downtown costs $3.75. No official page says how full the Blue Line gets on festival days. CTA’s alerts page lists planned work by line, so look at it before your trip.

A metered taxi to downtown averages about $50, and the shared flat fare to downtown or McCormick Place is $30. Our [taxi page](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/taxi/) has the meter rates and where the ranks are.

The festival names Uber for rides. It tells riders to follow the app’s directions to Grant Park, and to walk west of State Street after leaving the park and follow the app to the nearest pickup point. Back at O’Hare, the [rideshare page](https://ordairportguide.com/transport/rideshare/) shows the poles at Terminals 2 and 3.

O’Hare’s TSA, Parking and Public Transit pages don’t mention Lollapalooza, and the airport publishes no festival train service. The festival’s help page mentions O’Hare once, as one of the area’s two airports.

## Hotels: downtown or a short walk from the Blue Line

The festival’s help page sends hotel searches to Crewfare and offers an Airbnb search around Grant Park. No page publishes rates or availability for the weekend.

Downtown, the Hilton Chicago on South Michigan Avenue sits over Grant Park. Its hotel page says to take the Blue Line to Jackson and walk 0.6 miles southeast. The Palmer House, a Hilton hotel on East Monroe Street in the Loop, says to ride the Blue Line to Monroe/Dearborn and walk east along Monroe Street.

The [hotels page](https://ordairportguide.com/hotels/) lists the places to stay near the airport. Three of them sit close to the Blue Line. The Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport is the one hotel inside the airport boundary, and its indoor route carries on to the Blue Line platform. The Crowne Plaza on River Road in Rosemont calls itself a short walk from the line, without giving a distance. La Quinta by Wyndham on Mannheim Road in Rosemont lists a Blue Line station nearby. Boarding anywhere but O’Hare costs $2.50 instead of $5, so a hotel near a station other than O’Hare’s skips the airport premium. The [free-shuttle hotel guide](https://ordairportguide.com/guides/hotels-near-ohare-with-free-airport-shuttle/) shows which hotels near the airport run a shuttle.

## Flying out after the festival

The airport’s TSA page says checkpoints are generally open as listed and that day-to-day airport activity can change the hours. It doesn’t list festival-weekend wait times or any extra time to allow. Terminal 2’s checkpoint 5 has the earliest listed opening at 3:15 a.m., and Terminal 5’s checkpoint 10 is open 24 hours. For a late flight home, Terminal 1’s checkpoint 1 and Terminal 2’s checkpoint 5 close at 11 p.m., and Terminal 3’s checkpoint 7A closes at 10:30 p.m. Checkpoints 3, 6 and 7 close at 8 p.m.

The [security page](https://ordairportguide.com/security/) lists every checkpoint and its hours, and the [guide to arriving for a domestic flight](https://ordairportguide.com/guides/how-early-should-you-get-ohare-domestic-flight/) sets them side by side. If you’re driving to the airport after the festival, O’Hare’s own parking page has a real-time status module, and the [parking page](https://ordairportguide.com/parking/) lists the lots.

## Parking near Grant Park

The festival says the Millennium Garages sit beneath Grant Park, Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park. It suggests Millennium Lakeside Garage or Millennium Park Garage, which share an entrance, and it asks drivers to check for temporary road closures.
